Broadband

I have awoken today to amazing news. Free Broadband for all at home by Google! Simply quite amazing by all accounts the big G has stepped in and will have Sky, Talk Talk and others quaking in there boots. Pity it’s April 1st!

I am getting quite excited about the prospect of Virgin Media. It could be a real revolution and at last a feasable competitor to BT. From what i can gather Virgin Media are going to be offering four types of products and will be giving you the opportunity to basically buy into them all.

The pricing is going to be dead easy to 2 for £20, 3 for £30 and 4 for £40. Genius and then they have a package which is called the Very impressive package (genius again) the sad thing is that it is £125 a month but what a package. You get Broadband, HD TV, Sky Sports and movies and a land lind and a Virgin Mobile. That is one hell of a package!

I should perhaps also explain that this spells the death of Virgin.net, NTl and Telewest as these are now obsolete, but good riddance and welcome to Virgin Media. Common sense prevails!

I thought it only right that since half my blog is about how bad Sky Broadband is I should start a section on how good Sky TV is and what particular deals they have on offer at the moment. Call it Karma if you will basically. I would I also like to start a section of the blog aimed at positive comments towards Sky and even Sky Broadband if there are any?

In fact I know that is a bit unfair as recently I have started to get more positive comments from folks about their experiences of Sky Broadband.

So here goes on the latest Sky Offers.

They have just launched an offer which gives you over 100 pay for TV channels and a further 200 free to view and or listen TV and radio channels. The only downer is that you get free broadband with this but hell for £26 it is almost worth it.

BARGAIN! Even I am tempted!

As far as free broadband is concerned things have been very quiet over the past few weeks.

But i thought i would inform you of a change in the offering from Orange. Basically they are now going to make you pay an extra £5 per month if you want a connection speed higher than 2mb. Bit of a cheek in my book but then just to rub more salt in the wounds they will also charge people who are getting the free under 2mb service 50p a minute to report a fault.

Nice one Orange!

One million people have registered for Sky Broadband and it seems that most of you have come here at one point or another drawn by all the problems you have been having.

I am sincerely sorry for these people and hope this place is giving you an opportunity to vent some of your anger. I like anger and i like ranting so please keep the comments coming!

Anyway Sky are naturally very happy with so many people signing up but do me a favour get out of it now and go somewhere better. To be honest free broadband still isn’t upto scratch anywhere yet so dig deep and spend a little it will be worth it.

Some of my friends have been patiently waiting for Sky Broadband for over a month now, the muppets (they are my friends so i guess i can call them that) have now been educated hopefully and have gone with someone better. If Pipex isn’t you bag then try….. err actually im not gonna reccomend anyone else but there are some out there. Thats just given me an idea for a new post!

Sounds alot to me and you but to be honest this is peanuts to Talk Talk and i reckon they will be pretty happy with a loss of only that amount.

So 620,000 people have signed up for Broadband with them out of these 200,000 are still waiting to be connected. Apart from these little hiccups and they are little in the scale of things Talk Talk seem to be doing pretty well.

Anyway read the educated version over at the beeb!

Well it was only going to be time before someone came up with another offer to tempt people into a broadband service.

This time you will get a new PC for your troubles and it will be from a company called www.redteninternet.com/.

There are pretty scarce details on the exact PC spec but i am sure it will bog standard but you will be expected to pay £19.99 a month for a minimum of three years. Yep that’s  £719.64 to be exact, thats more expensive than my Sony Vaio. To cop it all remember you have no idea what the customer service is like and what the actual broadband will be like. They are talking big and good but who would’nt be aware very aware.

Go to a trusted brand! I wont say it again, oh ok i will PIPEX! By the way i dont work for them just genuinely like there product but it is your choice at the end of the day!

Well this isn’t going to be very revolutionary by the sounds of things but Vodafone will launch a service in the New Year. It will be a service based on BT infrastructure.

There are no real details yet but i reckon it will naturally be complimentary to the Mobile offer available and will have a home phone package aswell. As soon as more details emerge i will post more.

Yeah thats right folks, surprise of all surprises Talk Talk have crap customer service! Well just to save the lawyers getting in touch the official statistics from uswitch.com say that only 42% of Talk Talk broadband customers said they were happy with the service they recieved. To be honest though Orange were not much better on 46% and then NTL and Tiscali came in with 50%.

All this survey really does is confirm what i have heard so many times before that basically us brits got crapped on froma great height in general by our service providers and we simply get sucked in by the hype.

My money is still on Pipex, still no problems excellent service and download speeds, i definately can’t complain.

Oh yeah read the full article over at silicon.com and make your own interpretation of the results.

Ok admittedly i have been terrible recently at blogging on my chosen subject but to be honest since i have recently got a new job and seem to have spent half my time working on major broadband companies and how our company can help them i haven’t exactly been keen on writing more on them at home. But here is a brief outline of interesting news:

  • TalkTalk bottom for broadband customer service
  • Vodafone to launch own broadband service
  • Get a free PC when you pay for Broadband
  • Carphone Warehouse makes a record loss
  • One million people register for Sky Broadband
  • Quelle surprise BSKB are happy about this

Here ends the broadband news but i will try and write a bit more on each!
