After frequent disconnections including when telephone rang and speeds of 1-2Mps, I persuaded Sky to send me a new router (Sagem). Immediate improvement to 5.5mps and no disconnections. I knew it was the Netgear router but Sky didn't believe me - or didn't want to. Top marks to Sky for current performance. Not bad for £5 per month. I had the other Sky services anyway

Hello all, pretty much read every post on this site within regards to sky BB and there customer service, and yes l agree they are c**p and that's putting it nicely. However like myself I'm stuck with these Muppet's for 12 months, my advice is if your thinking of joining sky DON'T DO IT. The problem l was having was the speed of my connection (ping) while playing xbox live games considering that my mates connection at 2MB/S was far better than mine at 6.4MB/S. To cut a long story short and many phone calls to sky, l eventually got to the bottom of my problem which was a thing called maximum delay time, a setting for (ping). This was set at 32 milliseconds and it was this that was giving me all the problems. I managed to get sky to reduce this to 8 milliseconds and now my connection is far better than before. But there was a catch that there would be a possibility that my broadband connection might cut out i.e a 10-15% chance of this happening but if it did then they would increase this to 16 milliseconds. I hope this has helped with some of the problems.

Sky Broadband has just cancelled its SMTP server, meaning you can't send emails through Outlook - which is kind of a big deal - without telling any of its customers. This is the final straw after six months of misery with Sky broadband. They once disconnected my broadband altogether (again without telling me) because they thought my computer had a virus. I couldn't get reconnected until I'd reformatted my computer, costing me £70 and losing a load of valuable files. The broadband speed says 8MB, but don't believe it! We're lucky to get 1MB. When I phoned about this, their Delhi-based customer support team told me to change my microfilters. This made no difference, I called back, and another advisor admitted that they had only said this to fobb me off! He actually said that. I also have had problems with my wireless router, which stopped working and kept breaking connections. I'm switching to Virgin as soon as my contract is up in three months.

I have had lots of problems with Sky, moved house and this talk, surf,tv offer seemed fab so I booked it and left BT after years of superb service. We should have been paying £26 per month for all, so when we got a letter saying they were taking £66 d/d a month I nearly died, their explanation was we cant get sky broadband instead they have given us connect broadband (but failed to ask us if this was OK) and there is a charge for it. When trying to resolve this they said if we dont like it we can cancel it. To add to this I did a speed check and was shocked to discover my broadband wasnt even 56k, so I will be on to sky in the morning to cancel and find something better.
If your reading this, dont go with Sky for broadband - its pants!
